Tripindi Shradha is an ancestral ritual in which three pindas are offered for the peace of the last three generations of a family, traditionally the father’s, grandfather’s and great-grandfather’s lines. “Tri” means three and “pind” is the ritual offering of rice, sesame and other items. During the Tripindi Shradha, prayers are offered to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The ritual is often described as pind daan for three generations.
