Vrat Katha Of Shree Ganga Dussehra 2024

Sagar was the name of an ancient monarch who ruled in Ayodhya. Keshini and Sumati were the names of his two queens. Sumati had 60,000 sons, whereas Keshini had a son by the name of Anshuman. The Ashwamedha Yagna was formerly performed by King Sagar. For the completion of the Yajna, a horse was left.

To end the yagna, Indra took the horse and tied it up at Kapil Muni’s ashram. Kapil Muni was performing atonement. The monarch requested that each of his 60,000 sons bring a horse. When the king’s sons arrived at Kapil Muni’s ashram, their presence broke up his austerity and caused the fire to consume his rage.

Ganga Dussehra 2024

When Anshuman arrived at Muni’s ashram and saw his brothers after obtaining permission from Anshuman’s father, Garud ji related to him the stories about his brothers being consumed. Anshuman was also assured by Garuda ji that Ganga ji would be transported from heaven to earth if he desired his release.

Anshuman tried to bring Gangaji to earth when Maharaja Sagara passed away through meditation, but he was unsuccessful. Following this, his son Dileep tried to make amends but failed.

Finally, Bhagiratha, Dileep’s son, travelled to the Gokarna Tirtha to perform penance to bring Gangaji to this world. Bhagiratha’s abstinence pleased Brahmaji, who therefore granted the wish for Ganga to travel to Earth.

The issue at hand was who would control Ganga’s velocity on Earth once it had left Brahmaji’s body. Brahmaji claimed that only Lord Shankar possessed the strength necessary to control the Ganges’ speed. Lord Shiva should therefore be given preference so that he can control the Ganges’ velocity.

Bhagirath began to worship Lord Shankar by standing on one thumb. Shivji approved of Bhagiratha’s strict penance and consented to control Ganga in his jatas.

Goddess Ganga In Mahabharat And Rigveda

The Ganga/Goddess Ganga is mentioned in the classic epic Mahabharata. She was Shantanu’s wife and the devoted mother of Bhisma, a patriarchal warrior who serves as one of the epic’s primary protagonists.

When her son Bhisma is fatally wounded in the great battle of Kurukshetra, Goddess Ganga assumes a human shape, emerges from the river, and appears to be a mother weeping uncontrollably over her son’s body.

The Rigveda, an ancient Hindu literature regarded as the most sacred of all, also refers to the Ganga. When discussing the rivers that run from the east to the west of our nation, Rigveda’s Nadistuti mentions the Ganga. However, it’s not entirely clear if that relates to the Ganges River.
