Pitru Dosh Puja is a sacred Vedic ritual conducted to seek forgiveness and blessings from our ancestors in Hinduism. The puja is usually recommended when Pitru Dosh is present in one’ birthchart.
With traditional offerings and sacred mantras, it helps in reducing ancestral karmic imbalances that might cause constant hurdles in your life.
This guide will help you explore how Pitru Dosh Puja heals your lineage and invites divine grace to your home.
As the word “Pitru Dosh” itself reveals its meaning, “Pitra”, which means forefather. Hence, Pitru Dosh Puja is a spiritual remedy conducted to pacify the restless souls of ancestors and remove ancestral dosh from the horoscope.
But how does Pitru Dosh occur? As per Vedic astrology, Pitru Dosh occurs when forefathers are not honoured properly and generally reflects through certain planetary alignment.
This Dosh sometime lead top continuous struggles in a person’s life, like delay in marriage, financial stability, or family disputes.
Therefore, this puja acts as a restorative ritual designed to seek forgiveness and offer “Moksha” to the ancestral soul.
By doing this with the proper vidhi, the devotees pay respect to their ancestors and convert the ancestral burden into lifelong blessings.
The Pitru Dosh puja must be done by following a specific Vedic ritual to make sure smoother transition of the restless ancestral soul to peace.
Here are the general steps followed by Pandit:
1. Ganpati Pujan & Sankalpa: Puja starts with offering prayers to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles, followed by a vow to honour ancestors.
2. Kalash Sthapana & Shanti Path: A sacred pot filled with water is installed, and Vedic peace mantras are chanted to purify the space and invite the soul.
3. Invocation of Lord Vishnu: Prayers are offered to Lord Vishnu, as he is the grantor of Moksha.
4. Pind Daan (Sacred Offerings): This is an essential ritual where rice balls or Pindis, along with honey, ghee, and sesame, are made and offered to appease the ancestors.
5. Tarpan (Water Libations): A water with black sesame seeds is poured to quench the thirst of forefathers and remove ancestral debt.
6. Brahmin Bhojan & Daan: The ritual concludes by feeding a pandit and offering a charity to ensure the merit of the puja reaches the ancestor’s soul.
Vedic Reference: The marriage ceremony is primarily based on the Vivaha Sukta from the Rigveda (Book 10, Hymn 85), which describes the divine marriage of Surya (daughter of the Sun) and is considered the prototype of all Hindu marriages.
