About the Father of Lord Hanuman: Kesari

Kesari was a mighty Vanara (monkey king) and an impressive warrior with power and bravery. He is the king of Sumeru Mountain and was the protector of dharma (righteousness).

According to the Valmiki Ramayana, Kesari was the son of Brihaspati. He even fought for Lord Rama during the war he had against Ravana.

Kesari is Hanuman’s earthly father. There was another divine force that was instrumental in Hanuman’s birth- the Wind God Vayu.

In both the Shiva Purana and the Ramayana, when Anjana desired a child, Vayu transported the divine aspect of Lord Shiva into her womb.

Lord Shiva is also called by several names, such as Keasri Nandan (Son of Kesari), Anjaneya (Son of Anjana), Maruti, Vayuputra, and Pavanputra.

Mythological Stories About the Birth of Lord Hanuman

According to this mythological story, when King Dasharath of Ayodhya was performing a havan with his wives to get a son, he was given a kheer in the havan. He was told to feed it to his queens.

After the havan was over, King Dasharath distributed the kheer among the three queens, but then a crow flew away a part of the kheer and dropped it where Mother Anjani was doing penance.

When the kheer fell into the hands of Anjana while she was doing penance, she accepted it as a prasad of Lord Shiva.

It is said that because of this prasad, Ram Ji was born in Ayodhya, and Hanuman Ji was born from Anjani’s womb.

In this way, both the Lord and the devotee incarnated on this earth together with the same prasad, and a unique relationship was formed from their birth itself.

Another Mythological Story

According to another legend, once everyone was present in the court of Devraj Indra, where Rishi Durvasa was also present.

There, an Apsara Punjikasthali of Devraj Indra was repeatedly coming and going from the court, which caused Rishi Durvasa to get angry.

He cursed Apsara Punjikasthali to become a monkey. Punjikasthali apologized a lot, but the Rishi did not take back his curse.

Yes, later, out of mercy, he did give her the boon that she could assume the form of her choice.

A few years after this incident, Punjikasthali was born in the house of the remarkable monkey King Viraj. She was named Anjani. When Anjani reached a marriageable age, she married Kesari.

It is said that in return for saving the lives of the sages, King Kesari had received a boon that he would get a son who could take any form he wished and who would be as powerful as the wind and like Rudra. Then Hanuman ji was born.

Lord Hanuman As The Incarnation of Lord Shiva

As we all know, Lord Hanuman is one of the many incarnations of Lord Shiva. It is known as the Rudra Avatar.
