Mythological Stories Related to Jamai Sasthi

First Story

According to a mythological story, Lord Vishnu invited Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva to his home for a meal.

But Goddess Lakshmi did not welcome Goddess Parvati, as there was a feud between them.

This angered Lord Shiva, who cursed Lord Vishnu that he would have to leave his home and beg like a beggar on the road.

Then Lord Vishnu changed himself into a Jamai (son-in-law) and took the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi on the sixth day of Shukla Paksha of the month of Jyeshtha.

This apologizing and gratitude relieved Lord Vishnu of the curse uttered by Lord Shiva, and therefore, Lord Vishnu was able to return to his home.

Second Story

According to another mythological story, in ancient times, there was a lady who consumed everything edible in her household and continued blaming the cat for having eaten her stuff. Mother Sasthi, riding a cat, got annoyed with the woman.

The woman was pregnant, and when the baby was born on Earth, one of them vanished. At this time, the woman prayed to Goddess Sasthi and asked her if she could please.
