The Hindu calendar has two periods of the Moon: Shukla Paksha (brighter Moon) and Krishna Paksha (waning Moon).
Among them, one of them is Jaya Ekadashi, which occurs on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha of Magha month.
This day is regarded as very auspicious in order to receive blessings and practice any religious activity.
On this ekadashi day, Lord Vishnu is worshipped in the form of “Madhava”. It represents the lord with higher knowledge and the husband of Goddess Lakshmi.
Devotees celebrate this day with strict fasts or prayers and the recitation of their names. It is believed to be an efficient way to control the cravings of the human mind and bring one step closer to achieving moksha.
The Jaya Ekadashi day is very desirable for devotees to assist them in living a righteous and peaceful life.
Jaya Ekadashi is not just a religious practice but an opportunity for transformation and spiritual growth.

Deeply rooted in Padma Purana and Bhavishya Purana, it is believed to “Mahapunya” (great merit) vrat when done with pure intention and heart.
The Jaya Ekadashi Vrat katha informs the followers of the secret spiritual force of this holy fast.
The story originates according to legends with heaven, which is a beautiful place with greenery and where all the gods and goddesses dwell.
The place consists of Gandharvas, some of the greatest musicians, and Apsaras, who are divine dancers.
The heaven is ruled by the Lord Indra, the king of all the gods. Once during a grand celebration, the Gandharavas and Apasaras are performing gracefully.
Among them, one of the highly talented musicians named “Malyavan” was adorned by the beauty of “Pushpavati,” an apsara.
Both of them fall in love with each other and get distracted during their performance.
Seeing all this. Lord Indra was furious and cursed them to become Pishachas (ghostly beings). Then both were dispatched to the mortal world forest ground.
All this made them live a miserable life. Now they are just wandering in the forest in pain, hunger, thirsty and impatient.
One day, while wandering in the forest on the day of Ekadashi. They don’t eat, drink or sleep all day and night because they are in bad condition.
They unintentionally continued to fast and observed Jaya Ekadashi and spent the day in prayer in order to dispel the curse.
Pleased by their unintentional fasting and prayers, Lord Vishnu appears in the forest on the Dwadashi. He frees them from the curse of Lord Indra and transforms them back to heaven.
The whole incident showcases the divine power of observing the Jaya Ekdashi vrat and teaches how this fast can remove past sins and negative karmas.
