According to Hindu mythology, Lord Parshuram was one of the seven immortals (Sapta Chiranjeevi) who lived in the Dvapara Yuga.
The ancient mythological tale reveals that a king named Kartavirya Arjuna once ordered the acquisition of the divine cow Kamdhenu, but Jamadagni, Parshuram’s father, came in his way.
When the enraged King Arjuna abducted the cow by force, Lord Parshuram killed him. Later, Kartavirya Arjuna’s offspring took revenge by killing Jamadagni.
When Lord Parshuram came to know about his father’s death, he vowed to kill every Kshatriya and fill five lakes with their blood.
In the process, he wounded several Kshatriya kings and continued killing them for 21 births.
Parshuram kept killing the Kshatriyas until Sage Ruchika came and stopped him from doing so.
Later, he pleased Lord Shiva with his penance and devotion, and Lord Shiva blessed him with a divine bow to protect the world from evil forces.
Legend also goes that once, Parshuram was going to visit Lord Shiva, but Lord Ganesha tried to stop him.
He fought with Lord Ganesha and broke one of his teeth. Since then, Lord Ganesha has come to be known as Ekadanta.
Lord Parshuram has also appeared in epic tales like the Ramayana and Mahabharata. He met Lord Vishnu’s two incarnations, Lord Rama and Lord Krishna.
According to mythology, once, Mother Renuka went to take a bath. When she returned after taking a bath, she saw King Chitrarath taking a bath.
Seeing his beauty, the mother’s mind got disturbed. When she reached home and saw her, Maharishi Jamdagni understood what had happened. He told his sons to kill their mother, but everyone refused to do so.
In such a situation, Jamdagni got angry and cursed his four sons to lose their power of thinking.
When Parshuram reached there, Maharishi Jamdagni asked him to kill his mother. He obeyed his father’s orders and killed his mother.
Maharishi Jamdagni was very happy and asked Parshuram to ask for three boons. Then he asked for the first boon to bring his mother back to life, the second to set his brothers right, and the third boon that he should never be defeated and get a long life.
Lord Parshuram was born into a Brahmin family, but his nature makes him of the Kshatriya clan.
He is considered to have a very short temper, and due to this anger, he broke one tooth of Lord Ganesha.
According to the scriptures, Maharishi Bhrigu’s son Richik was married to King Gadhi’s daughter Satyavati.
After marriage, Satyavati wished Maharishi Bhrigu a son for herself and her mother. In such a situation, Maharishi Bhrigu gave them two fruits and said that she should embrace the fig tree and her mother should embrace the peepal tree and eat them.
But Satyavati and her mother did not follow this rule of Maharishi Bhrigu at all, so Maharishi Bhrigu got very angry, and he told Satyavati that you have embraced the wrong tree.
Therefore, your son will be born with Kshatriya qualities despite being a Brahmin, and your mother’s son will be born with Brahmin qualities despite being a Kshatriya.
In such a situation, Satyavati and her mother accepted their mistake. They prayed to Maharishi Bhrigu that my son should not have Kshatriya qualities, even if my grandson was born with such qualities.
Maharishi Bhrigu accepted his words, and after some time, Jamdagni Muni was born from Satyavati’s womb, from whom Parshuram Ji was born.
