He is known for his youthful charm and powers, worshipped highly throughout India, mainly in the South Indian region.
His birth story is narrated as when demon Tarakasura fooled lord brahma and received the boon that only the son of lord shiva can kill him.
He became arrogant and troubled so many creatures. At that time, lord shiva was in deep meditation. He had to marry Goddess Parvati.
All the devtas asked Kamdeva to interrupt lord shiva’s meditation and draw him to marry the goddess. After that, their son would be able to kill the demon.
Kamadev identified that he was taking a risk, but he had no choice but to follow the god’s order. He shot an arrow of love at the third eye of the lord.
Being wounded, Shiva’s third eye opened, spraying fire at him, turning him into ashes. The god then appeased lord shiva to marry Goddess Parvati, to which the lord agreed.
The divine union took place with celebration and a great ceremony. Agni dev reminded the deity of the divine task of producing a son to kill the demon Tarakasura and save the universe.
