Durga Saptashati, also known as Devi Mahatmya or Chandi Path, is one of the most revered scriptures dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is a part of the Markandeya Purana and contains 700 verses (shlokas) arranged in 13 chapters, narrating how the Goddess destroyed demonic forces such as Madhu-Kaitabha, Mahishasura, Shumbha-Nishumbha, and Raktabija.
The text is divided into three charitras. The Prathama Charitra (Chapter 1) is dedicated to Mahakali, the Madhyama Charitra (Chapters 2 to 4) to Mahalakshmi, and the Uttama Charitra (Chapters 5 to 13) to Mahasaraswati, together representing the three divine powers of the Goddess.
Traditionally, the path begins with preparatory stotras such as Kavacham, Argala Stotram, and Keelakam, followed by the 13 chapters, and concludes with Devi Suktam, Kshama Prarthana, and Aarti. Because correct pronunciation and sequence matter in this path, it is best recited by a trained pandit.
In this e-Puja, our experienced Pandit ji performs the complete path live, in your name and gotra, and seeks the blessings of Goddess Durga for you and your family. The path is most commonly performed during Navratri, especially on Ashtami and Navami, but it can also be performed on any auspicious day or special occasion.
