The term Akhand means ‘unbroken’ or ‘continuous’, and Path means ‘recitation’. Akhand Ramayan Path, hence the uninterrupted, consistent chanting of Ramcharitmanas – the revered scripture written by 16th-century saint Goswami Tulsidas.
It is an epic devotional book and is an account of the life of the Lord Ram, his virtues and divine leelas (deeds), in seven Kands (chapters), starting with the Bal Kand, and ending with the Uttar Kand.
The recitation is done with no interruption, either day or night, until the whole scripture is finished, normally taking approximately 24 hours. Even hearing or being in the presence of this path is believed to give vast spiritual merit (punya) to all those involved.

The Akhand Ramayan Path, deeply rooted in unwavering devotion to Lord Ram, the sacred ritual has been a cornerstone of hindu households and temples for ages.
This is one of the most sacred ways to receive divine blessings, cleanse the mind, and invoke peace and prosperity in an individual’s home or community.
Akhand Ramayan Path is organized on multiple occasions, Ram Navami, Vivah Panchami, during Navaratri, or to show sacred events, including housewarming. This is performed during times of illness, grief, or tough times to remove obstacles.
1. Purify the space: Purify the puja space, set up a chowki with idols of Ram, Sita, Lakshman & Hanuman, and keep the Ramcharitmanas on a wooden stand.
2. Sankalp: The performer or pandit formally announces the purpose of the path and seeks Lord Ram’s blessings to start.
3. Continuous recitation: 4-6 number of pandits change shifts, hence the reading never stops – including all 7 kands without interruption (24-hour).
4. Maintain the atmosphere: Light all diyas, offer incense, sweets, and flowers, and sing bhajan between sections to sustain devotional energy.
5. Samapti: After the path completion, give prasad to all attendees, and offer final prayers for prosperity, success, and well-being.
Vedic Reference: The marriage ceremony is primarily based on the Vivaha Sukta from the Rigveda (Book 10, Hymn 85), which describes the divine marriage of Surya (daughter of the Sun) and is considered the prototype of all Hindu marriages.
