Ekadashi Vrat Udyapan is the final performed Vedic ritual after one has consistently observed the Ekadashi fast for a particular period – often one year, three years, or after observing 26 Ekadashis.
As per the ancient Puranas, just stopping the fast with no formal Udyapan leaves the spiritual punya unachieved. The ritual consists of seeking Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi to appreciate the devotee’s discipline.
This is organized to seek forgiveness for any wrongdoing and mistakes during the fast and to ensure that the peace, prosperity, and spiritual liberation promised by the vrat are completely realized by the follower and their lineage.

The Ekadashi fast is known as the ‘King of Vrats’ in Vedic culture, devoted to the honouring of Lord Vishnu.
However, the spiritual journey of daily fasting is thought to be incomplete without the right ritual of Udyapan.
The process serves as a divine seal, changing the native from a period of strict austerity to a life blessed with the permanent benefits of their penance.
This is a practice of gratitude and a formal declaration of successful completion of one’s sacred sankalp.
The Udyapan puja is a celebratory yet disciplined ritual that needs accurate Vedic steps. The ritual starts with Ganesh puja and Kalash sthapana, followed by the setup of Sarvotabhadra Mandala, where Lord Vishnu is sought in his four-armed form.
The basics of the ritual include a Shodashopachara puja (16-step worship) of lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi using tulsi leaves and yellow flowers.
A key element is Ekadashi homam, where sacred items are offered into the fire while reciting Vishnu Sahasranama or Purusha Suktam.
Traditionally, the follower invites brahmins (showing annual ekadashis) for a brahmin bhoj.
If logistics are the issue, 99Pandit simplifies this by arranging qualified pandits and handling Vastra daan and Dakshina.
The puja is complete with Dwadashi Parana, where the performer finally breaks their fast by eating Prasad sanctified during the puja, officially completing the long-term spiritual dedication.
Vedic Reference: The marriage ceremony is primarily based on the Vivaha Sukta from the Rigveda (Book 10, Hymn 85), which describes the divine marriage of Surya (daughter of the Sun) and is considered the prototype of all Hindu marriages.
