Navratri Puja

Navratri Puja is a sacred Hindu festival that honours Goddess Durga in her nine divine forms over nine auspicious nights.

Celebrated with great enthusiasm, the nine-night is all about devotion, fasting, offering prayers to the divine feminine energy, garba night, and spiritual renewal. This piece will help you know about Navratri Puja in detail.

The term “Navratri” derives from the Sanskrit word “nava”, which means nine and “ratri” refers to nine nights.

It is a vibrant festival that honours nights of devotion to the nine forms of Goddess Durga, each symbolizing power, virtue, and wisdom.

As per the Hindu scriptures, it marks the victory of the Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura to restore balance and peace in the Universe.

Performing fast, rituals, and prayers on this day helps devotees seek inner strength, wisdom, prosperity, and harmony.

Navratri falls twice a year, and each has its own Ghatasthapana muhurat. We schedule every booking around these auspicious windows.

  • Chaitra Navratri — March 19 to March 27, 2026. Ghatasthapana muhurat: approx. 6:19 AM to 10:14 AM. Concludes with Ram Navami.
  • Sharad Navratri — October 11 to October 19, 2026. Ghatasthapana muhurat: approx. 6:19 AM to 10:12 AM. Concludes with Dussehra.

Ghatasthapana muhurat shifts slightly by city. Our pandit confirms the exact local timing for your city before the booking date.

Here’s everything needed for Ghatasthapana and the nine days of worship. Our all-inclusive package brings every item to your door.

  • Earthen or brass Kalash
  • Mango leaves (7) and a coconut
  • Red cloth and kalava (sacred thread)
  • Clean soil, a wide plate, and barley seeds (jau)
  • Akhand jyot lamp, ghee or oil, and cotton wicks
  • Durga idol or image
  • Kumkum, rice, and marigold garlands
  • Incense sticks and camphor
  • Fruits, sweets, and betel nuts for offerings

All Navratris honor the nine forms of Goddess Durga, but the timing and character differ.

  • Chaitra Navratri falls in March–April and marks the Hindu New Year. It concludes with Ram Navami and is more prominent in North India.
  • Sharad Navratri falls in September–October and is the most widely celebrated, ending in Dussehra. It’s the one most associated with Garba, Dandiya, and Durga Puja pandals.
  • Gupt Navratri occurs in Ashadha (June–July) and Magha (January–February). These are quieter, tantric observances favored by dedicated sadhaks rather than public celebration.

The Ghatasthapana vidhi is identical across all four. We perform the same authentic ritual regardless of which Navratri you’re observing.

Performing Navratri Puja at home is simple if you follow the right sequence and keep a few basics ready in advance.

Before the day
Clean your home and set aside a quiet corner for the altar. Keep the Kalash, Durga idol, barley seeds, and a red cloth ready the night before.

On Ghatasthapana day
Wake up before sunrise and bathe. Perform Ghatasthapana within the muhurat window for your city. Install the Kalash, sow the barley, and light the akhand jyot.

Through the nine days
Keep the lamp burning without a break. Offer daily aarti, recite Durga Saptashati or Devi Suktam, and maintain your fast if you’re observing one.

On the final days
Perform Kanya Pujan on Ashtami or Navami. Close with the final Aarti and Kalash visarjan.

If you’d rather have a pandit guide the rituals and bring the samagri, we handle the entire puja at home or over video call.
