Adhik comes once every 3 years, and in those years with Adhik mass, 26 ekadashis come, instead of 24.

This is a very significant and sacred day for the followers of lord vishnu, mainly for the Vaishnavas sect, who celebrate the day religiously.
The word ‘Parama’ means ‘the highest’ or ‘Supreme’. In 2026, Parama Ekadashi 2026 falls on a Thursday, which is highly sacred for Vishnu puja.
It’s considered that reserves the power to remove poverty and misery from an individual’s life.

The ekadashi fast should be broken after sunrise the next day. It’s noted that the devotee must break the parana within Dwadashi tithi. This ends on June 12, 2026, at 7:37 PM.
Another important thing to note is that the fast should not be broken during Hari Vasara, which is the fourth duration of Dwadashi. The suitable time to open fast is Pratah kala (morning).
The Parama Ekadashi is led by Lord Purushottam, who is one of the names of Lord Vishnu, the preserver and protector of the universe.
The name is a Sanskrit term that means supreme being. The adhik mass is known as the Purushottam mass.
The deity of this month looked down upon and believed inauspicious, but lord vishnu gave it his name, hence accepting one of the best months.
The 7th avatar, Lord Ram, the avatar of Lord Vishnu, was revered as Maryada Purushottam, the perfect gentleman and lord krishna, the 8th avatar, is called Purushottam.

A Brahmin by the name Sumedha used to live in Kampilya town in ancient times. His wife was called Pavitra, who was of the utmost vestal (Sati and Sadhvi) and virtue.
They were very religious people despite the fact that they were living in poverty and were good hosts.
However, becoming miserable with their conditions, the Brahmin thought of going abroad. But his wife said – Swami! Lucky and offspring can only be attained by the gift given in a past life. Then, do not fret about it.
Maharishi Kaudilya visited them one day. The Brahmin woman and man were his servitors. Maharishi, who saw their condition, told them to fast on Parama Ekadashi.
He told him – You can get rid of your poverty by fasting together on Ekadashi in Krishna Paksha of Adhik Masa, and Jagrans at night.
Through this Ekadashi Vrat, Yakshaj Kubera was made the Lord of Treasures and Harishchandra a King. When the sage had gone, Sumedha and his wife fasted at this Ekadashi.
Early in the morning, a prince on horseback arrived and gave Sumedha a prosperous home, all riches, property and resources. Then the couple lived happily after that.
On Parama Ekadashi day, the followers fast throughout the day. They neither eat food nor do they eat fruits and dairy products, but they have devotees who follow this vrat as well.
Like all other ekadashi vrats, fasting on this day also starts from ‘dashami’. The viewer of this vrat consumes one when that is cooked without salt.
This is performed to make sure that there is no residue of food left inside the stomach on the day of Ekadashi.
The Parama Ekadashi vrat is also terminated on the dwadashi tithi after feeding a Brahmin.
Ekadashi is devoted to the worship of Lord Vishnu, and therefore, the devotees also pay full devotion to their God on this day. Lord Vishnu is venerated using flowers, Tulsi leaves, fruits, dhoop and incense.
Reciting Vishnu Sahastranaam and reading Vishnu Purana are good things to do during Parama Ekadashi.
The vrat reader should also read the Parama Ekadashi Vrat Katha. The followers also go to the temples of Lord Vishnu and sing bhakti songs and bhajans throughout the night.
